Lip Sync-Shooting

As a class, we were given a Lip Sync task. To Meghan Trainor's song 'All About That Bass' we took turns in front and behind a camera. Whilst I personally would normally be behind the camera I did actually get quite involved in the performing.
We shot our Lip-sync in the studio. In groups of 4/5 we alternated between three different sets; One a green screen with a sofa, another a blue background with fluorescent tube bulbs, and finally a black fireplace. Each setup had different camera equipment to use. The green screen had a Cannon 5D with a single lens reflex camera. The blue background had a Sony NX5 on a Dolly, and the fireplace setting had the Sony FS100.

To begin, we had a brief introduction on all the different filming roles we were expected to try out. The duties included performing, Directing, Cinemaphotography, floor managing and operating the playback (the Clapper). For our clapper, we were given an electronic version to use, technically just a video on an iPap. On the video, there were a series of 'Beeps' before the song kicked in. This is for when we get to editing the footage together so we can link the Lip Sync perfectly with the song.

One thing I did learn during this test is that if the actor who is lip singing actually sings along to the track, the lip sync seems much more natural to watch. I will definitely ask our actor/actress(s) in our Music Video to put this into consideration when filming so we can create a high-level piece of work.

What I did find challenging in the shoot was actually filming the footage as usually, I would have prepared a shot list and a basic storyboard so I would already have a basic overview of the finished product. This proved to me the importance of preparing fully before a shoot to make it as professional as possible.

Overall I found the shoot extremely fun and exciting, it gave me a great insight of how our Music Video will be created. It was a brilliant first introduction, and I will take what I have learnt from it to the process of creating our Final Music Video.
