What is a Storyboard?

Throughout the delvelopment of both our As and A2 year we were required during the pre production stages for our Opening Thrillers and Music Video to design a storyboard. Between the two difeeret products, the process remained basically the same but compared to our Thrillers which were much shorter, Our music video required a lot more work as it contained more frames. This showed our delevopment process over the duration of our course.

A Storyboard is a guide. Designed during the pre production stages a soryboard helps to give a early insight into the finished product. A Storyboard can be either drawn by hand or animated electronically. Used for films, televsion series, music videos, animations, comic books etc, Storyboards have been used around all areas of the media indrustry.

Since being first introduced during our As year to Storyboards;

After using our Thriller Storyboards during our As year I was able to perceive the practicality of them and so going into our next project I knew we had to be detailed with the creation process as it would help prevent any problems during our Production stages as well as creating a sort of guide when creating a shot list.

The functionality of a stroyboard helps to create an insight of the ideal camera angles, zooms and editing of the finished product. Through the drawing stages and an actual visual represntaion of the video, it can help the creator make alterations to either imrprove or/and create more ideas, deleloping the product.

Created during the early 1930s, Storyboards were delveloped by Walt Disney Productions to help assist the planning of their rewnowed cartoons such as Mickey Mouse. Now almost 90 years later, Storyboards today are still as efficient as when they were first created but with a lot more individuals using them as a compulosry process element to their creations.
