U2 - Raised By Wolves
For my 3rd initial idea unfortunately again there is no current published video so I have decided to attach a fan made one:
Again even though this might make the process of our overall project a little more difficult throughout the year I still see the potential of this song as I believe it could create an outstanding music video but luckily the band is very well established so determining their star image and conventions they include would not be an issue especially through their current music videos. For example below I have attached the music video for their 2009 song 'With Or Without You':
For this song, my idea revolves around the idea of a narrative of a track and field athlete pushing himself to his absolute limits with the idea that with hard work and determination later comes success. The video will consist of 2 different locations: A track and race course and field.
The band will consist of 4 people a lead guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, drummer, and lead singer/guitarist.
Potentially I can see my band being quite similar to Alt-J in the way that their videos are very detailed with the inclusion of a very strong story line but with twist's in reality, included within them, for example in 'Hunger of the Pine' with the shooting arrows and the protagonist's immortality to them.
The race course will be located outside with ideally a grass inner section. As well as a location for the band the race course will also be used for the narrative of the video. For the band, they will be possibly positioned on a medium sized platform with blinder lights directly behind them to create a dramatic effect to accompany the song. With the narrative, the race course will be filmed on throughout morning to night to show the development of his attempt to achieve his goal with the amount of time he has spent training.
For the second element of the video in the second destination of a field will be concentrated on a lead guitarist this suggests a more of equal credit within the band or that the guitarist is possibly a feature of the song. To create my ideal vision of this location, a gloomy/frosty weather possibly early morning will be necessary to accompany grey and white smoke bombs surrounding the guitarist as he/she jamming out in the field with two big speakers beside them.
The narrative will begin with a male track athlete prepping and getting himself ready for a training session. For example a ritual like routine including getting changed, doing up and securing shoe laces, gently warming up by stretching out limbs with exercises such as deep lunges and hamstring stretches, all before unaided dragging out multiple hurdles into position on the track to begin his independent training. As the athlete prepares himself on the track he kneels down, hood up into his starting position before he finally sets off on his first attempt. As the athlete continues to fail his ultimate goal by constantly falling over the hurdles or collapsing shown within multiple montages, after numerous attempts with a range of anger brewing the athlete takes a break by again performing another ritual like routine including the agony of the athlete entering and enduring an ice bath, a warm steaming shower etc before returning to the track. As the athlete begins again this time around his growing anger can not be contained as he begins to develop wolf-like qualities with each recurring lap.
Shown within his facial expressions and body language the idea is
that the athlete has unlocked his 'inner wolf' or his inner wildness as his mannerisms change into something of a wild creature. Through snarling and growling and a sudden tightness of his shoulders and arms including hands and fingers his entire mannerism transforms but with this added 'power' of the wolf he is able to achieve his goal of completing the course in record time.
As heard in the instrumental of the song, the heavy breathing I think perfectly fits the narrative of the video as it could easily connote the athlete.
I can imagine the band's image having a slight punk element to their look so including a lot of leather. Possibly the band will also have costume props which will complete their look, items such as fur jacket with a animals head still attached (worn by the lead singer) or hats and headpieces like antlers to possibly connote them as animals of prey to the wolf.
