Reflection of Test Shoot
For our Test Shoot of our 'Opening Sequence', we edited together one lessons worth of filming time of our main ideas. From this process we were certain that the genre of our Opening Sequence was a Thriller and that it had been well translated into our film.
The pace of some of the test shots were really effective, especially the applying of the lip gloss as it added so much tension whilst watching but I personally felt some of the other shots were too long, for example the spitting of the tooth paste. Our group have now all decided that we want more beauty product shots, for example, the slow motion shot of the blush powder in the atmosphere being blown away and the sizzling of the hair curling, and also that many shots will be shorter in length and have a quicker pace in between each shot.
Our test shot was around 15 seconds too short and so with the added shots of more beauty products shown will hopefully make up for the missing time.
The camera angles we used were quite simple, ranging from close shots to very close shots, which were all really effective. However, we want to definitely add and develop a wider variety of camera angles, such as some out of focus shots which would focus in and out of the sets background, which we will use to show clues left around the room like a dolls house, a children's tea set and an old teddy bear.
The tension within our idea has definitely been created but we feel as a group we want to stretch the tension out even more from the very beginning so the gradual rise in intensity will be even more exciting to watch. To a certain extent our idea is clear to the viewer but as a group we have planned to expand on it by showing and giving the viewer more subtle clues throughout so it is easier to understand.
We are also adding at the end of the sequence the kidnapper picking up his gloves and exiting through the door without seeing any part of his face. We are using this shot to replace the original shot with dialogue we used in our test shoot as we felt the sound of the leather gloves clenching as he leaves the room was more effective and sinister and creating dramatic tension.
Overall our test shoot was good fun and interesting to see our initial ideas on screen but it was too short and didn't hold enough clues to show to the audience but we were very happy with the editing of it as the fast cuts increasing and decreasing in speed especially during the applying of the blusher was really effective to watch.
