Genre

What is a Genre?

A Film Genre refers to which category a certain film goes into using the method of basing the elements within the film that have similarities from their constructed themes differentiating them from each other by giving a potential audience general clues and hints about its subject matter or themes. A specific genre is a thriller, such as 'Legend', the true story of the Krays, starring Tom Hardy and Emily Browning.

What is a Sub-Genre?

Film genres often branch out into Sub-genres.  Sub-Genres are simply combinations of more than 1 genre from its subdivision morphed together.  Some popular Genre combinations are Psychological Thrillers and Spy Thrillers such as 'The Bourne Identity' with Matt Damon and 'Psyhco' by Alfred Hitchcock.

What is a Hybrid Genre?

Genres that are unrelated can occasionally be combined to form Hybrid Genres, also known as cross-Genres. These Genres are blended from different themes and elements from two or more different genres to create a Hybrid, such as a comic spy thriller, for example 'Spy' starring Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Jason Statham.
